The 'Law of The Land' project began in late 2019 as a collaboration of a few old mates, musicians from the popular 90's Melbourne cover band 'Drop Dead Gorgeous'. Tony & Simon & had always wanted to form a band together and play their own 'home-grown' original music.
Tony and Simon had some original song ideas, and quickly started working together on the first song for the band, a song called "Satellite", paying particular attention to crafting a unique and unmistakable 'signature sound' for the band. Tony on guitars, Simon on keyboards & bass.
Tony & Simon both sing melodies as they songwrite, however, neither Tony or Simon wanted to be the front person for the band. They prefer to songwrite and play their instruments, so it was decided very early on that the band required a singer to front the band on lead vocals, and so the search began in 2020. The band needed someone who could take the 'guide vocals' Tony & Simon created during the songwriting process, weave some special magic and connect with the lyrics, to lift the songs to the 'next level'. Sounds easy right!
Obviously 2020 & 2021 were very difficult years, tuff for everyone I think, and very frustrating for the band. At times it felt as if all motivation had dissapeared, especially as lockdowns meant Tony & Simon were unable to meet together in person and progress their songwriting the way they normally would. Tony & Simon persevered, trying out numerous vocalists when circumstances allowed it. The band had their eyes set on a few potential singers, they were all very good, but none that really went to the 'next level'.
It was however a complete twist of fate for the lads when Tony, who was playing a private duo gig one evening in late 2021, spotted some raw talent singing along to the accoustic tunes the duo were playing. Tony invited this very talented young lady up to sing a few songs. The next time the band got together, all Tony could talk about was this talented lady singer. So with a little encouragement from Simon, Tony set about getting her telephone number. The following week Tony setup an introduction one evening in the studio, which, actually turned into a full on jam session / party, with the boys playing about 2 sets of songs they had never played together before, and this talented young lady absolutely singing her heart out. Wow!
At the end of the evening the lads introduced her to the band's first original song, "Satellite", and so she left that evening with the lyrics and a CD under her arm, oh yeah, and a followup audition to jam to Satellite with the band two weeks later.
The followup audition / jam was outstanding. Tusani really understands the music and ties the whole band together by adding her unique vibe to our songs.
